Descendants of Clement Maxfield
of Dorchester, Massachusetts
Third Generation

• He was married in Dorchester to a woman from Dorchester. It is therefore reasonable to speculate that he was part of the Clement Maxfield family, the only Maxfield family known to have settled in Dorchester in this period.
• His marriage date indicates that he was part of the generation of the children of Samuel² Maxfield. Samuel's oldest two sons were married, or began having children, too late for Ichabod to be their son.
• Ichabod's second wife was born in 1689. If Ichabod was just a few years older than his wife (usually the case), then his birth would fall in the gap between the birth of Samuel's son Samuel (1682) and Samuel's possible son Joseph (1689/90).

Ichabod Maxfield could be a son of Samuel Maxfield and his first wife Mary Davenport.

ICHABOD³ MAXFIELD (Samuel², Clement¹) married MARY GODFREY at Taunton, Massachusetts, on 12 August 1713 (VR Tau 2:333). Nothing more is known of this marriage.

Ichabod Maxfield married, second, at Dorchester, Massachusetts, on 28 October 1725 DORCAS BROWN (BRC 21:112). They were both from Dorchester; the Rev. Mr. John Danforth performed the ceremony. Dorcas Brown, daughter of John Brown, was born at Dorchester on 3 May 1689 (BRC 21:34).

Dorcas (Brown) Maxfield died at Dorchester on 24 April 1727, and was buried there, in her 38th year (BRC 21:133; GR 5:257).

After the death of his second wife, Ichabod married again. He married at Milton, Massachusetts, on 8 May 1729, SARAH TRESCOTT of Milton (VR Milt, 149;BRC 36:162).

Could this be the Ichabod Maxfield who paid a tax bill of £ 1-07-02 in the North Parish of Lebanon, Connecticut in 1741 (GR 20:46)?
