Descendants of John Maxfield
of Salisbury, Massachusetts
Fifth Generation

ISAAC5 MAXFIELD (Zadock4, Timothy3-2, John1) was born before 1774,[1] a son of Zadock Maxfield and his wife Susanna Sherman. He died before his mother wrote her will in 1823. He married at New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts, on 18 January 1795 ABIGAIL PECKHAM.[2] She was born before 1774.

Isaac Maxfield grew up in the whaling port of New Bedford, the first of eight known children of master mariner Zadock Maxfield. He appeared in the 1800 census at New Bedford, head of a family that consisted of a male and a female between 26 and 44, and a female under 10.[3] That is the last record I have that mentions Isaac alive, or implies Abigail alive.

Isaac's mother wrote her will on 13 March 1823. She included this statement:[4]

On a full consideration of the daily assistance I receive and through life shall need from my children who by a kind Providence are placed near me, I do not bequeath any of my property to my Granddaughter Rebecca Burdet, daughter of my son Isaac Maxfield, deceased, nor to my Grandson Charles Patrick Maxfield, son of my son Patrick Maxfield, deceased.
This statement informs us that Isaac was deceased, and his daughter Rebecca was married and had moved away.

A grave marker at Hillside Cemetery, Burnt Hills, Saratoga County, New York, reads:[5]

Rebecca,
dau. of I. & Abigail Maxfield,
and wife of Hubbard Burdick
died. Sep. 21, 1870,
aged 72 years

Hubbard Burdick appeared in the 1830 and 1840 censuses at Clifton Park, Saratoga County, New York.

Isaac Maxfield and his wife Abigail Peckham had the following child:

  1. REBECCA6 MAXFIELD b. abt. 1797-8; d. on 21 September 1870;[6] m. bef. 1823 HIBBARD BURDICK, b. abt. 1774-5, d. on 30 September 1849.[7]
