GEORGE SIDNEY6 MAXFIELD (David5, Currier4, Joshua3, Joseph2, John1) was born at Goshen, New Hampshire, on 3 August 1843 (NMGR 8:17), a child of David Carr Maxfield and his wife Thankful Hurd Cutts. George migrated to Minnesota with his parents in the 1850s.

George S. Maxfield served in the Union Army in the Civil War (Civ W Sol). He enlisted as a Private on 9 October 1864. He was placed in Company A, 3rd Infantry Regiment Minnesota, and promoted to Full Corporal. He was mustered out at Devall's Bluff, Arkansas, on 2 September 1865.

George married SARAH E. COLE at Shakopee, Scott County, Minnesota, on 16 December 1866 (NMGR 8:17). Sarah was born at Rhode Island (1880, 1885, 1895 censuses) or Maryland (1900, 1910 censuses, or New Hampshire 1870 census) on 14 February 1844 (NMGR 8:17).

The 1870 census (Mille Lacs Co., 7) reported this family next to brother Lauren in Greenwood Township (Princeton P.O.), Mille Lacs county, Minnesota. The family consisted of G. S., 26, male, S. E., 26, female, and E., 1, female.

George Maxfield's family was reported inn the 1880 Census (635:218D) at Benson, Swift County, Minnesota, as follows:

In 1885 (Mn census 1885:43:59) reported the family still at Benson, consisting of George S., 41, Sarah E., 40, Lizzie, 15, and Anna, 8. The 1895 census (Mn census 1895: 56:262) reported the family at Kensington, Douglas County, Minnesota. It stated that G. S., 52, had been a resident of the state 39 years, of that location 4 years. He was a wheat grader and a veteran soldier. His family included Sarah, 52, Lizzie, 26, Annie, 18, and Georgie, 7. Lizzie was a public school teacher.

This family was reported at Grant Avenue, Kensington village, Solem Township, Douglas County, Minnesota, in the 1900 Census (762:1:237A):

The 1910 census (694:2:86A) reported the family in the same township, consisting of Geo. S., 66, Sarah E., 65, and Georgia M., 21. George was post master, Georgia assistant post master. Sarah had four children, three of whom were living.

Sarah Maxfield died on 20 April 1918 (NMGR 8:17). George Maxfield was reported in the 1920 Census living in Santa Monica, California, with his brother Lauren Manley Maxfield. In 1930 the census (175:8A) reported George Maxfield at 133 Grand Surf Avenue, Santa Monica, Los Angeles County, California:
