CELESTE L. CARR and Henry Edgar Maxfield published their intentions to marry at Goshen on 14 December 1869 (GR 121:179). He was 27 years old, of Goshen; she was 25, of Newport, New Hampshire. They were married on 24 December 1869 (NMGR 7:70; Cutts 192). She was called "Kate." Henry was a farmer in Goshen, according to the 1870 Census and his son's birth record in 1876, a farmer in Newport on the 1880 Census. Henry and Celeste Maxfield were reported in the 1870 Census (850:1:509A) at Mill Village Post Office, Goshen Town. Henry E. Maxfield was a 27 year old farmer born in New Hampshire, with real estate of $1400 and a personal estate of $875. Kate L. Maxfield, age 26, was also born in New Hampshire. They were married the previous December.

Celeste Maxfield died on 25 July 1879 (NMGR 7:70), age 36 years. Henry and sons were reported in the 1880 Census (768:357C) at Newport as follows:

Henry Edgar Maxfield married, as his second wife, ELLA L. GOVE at Franklin, New Hampshire, on 8 June 1880 (Ind St 17 Jun 1880; NMGR 7:70). Ella was born at Franklin, New Hampshire on 18 October 1856 (F), a child of Alonzo and Elizabeth Gove.

Henry Edgar Maxfield died at Newport, New Hampshire, on 10 February 1883 (VR NH D). The record noted:

Widow Ella (Gove) Maxfield was living with her step-son Lester at Franklin in 1900, 1910 and 1930 (censuses). She died at Franklin on 22 February 1935 (F).
