He accompanied his parents to DeKalb County, and entered a claim adjoining his father on the east. When it came into market in January, 1843, they went together to Chicago and secured their government title. [Went back to Ohio and was married] . . . He returned to his land on which he lived until he improved the property in a creditable manner, removing thence to Sycamore.

Floyd did not appear in the 1870 census; he died in 1861.
William M. Maxfield died at Odin on 27 June 1872 (DeKalb Album 671).
Caroline appeared in the 1880 census (338:255C) as "C. P. Maxfield," at Dubuque, Iowa, living with her daughter Lymera and son-in-law L. G. Hurd, a lawyer. Mother-in-law C. P. Maxfield was a 53 year-old widow, born in Ohio, her father was born at New Hampshire, her mother at Pennsylvania.
