Harry Maxfield graduated from Johnson Normal School in 1881. He taught school from 1882 to 1884, farmed from 1884 to 1904, when he became a merchant with Jones Furniture Store, at Johnson (Vt Bio 263).
Martin Prindle was Harry's guardian from 20 June 1882 until Harry's 21st birthday, 13 October 1883 (Lamoille Probate 1:N426). The probable reason for this was the death of his mother, leaving him an estate.
Harry Maxfield married EMMA LOUISE PHILLIPS at Johnson on 12 December 1883 (VT VR). Emma was born at Johnson on 10 December 1861 (VT D), a child of George P. Phillips and Lucinda Woodruff.

This record also listed Mae's age as 8, which contradicts the birth date. Also resident in the household was Lucina Phillips, a 66 year old widow and Ema's mother.
Harry Maxfield became a Representative to the state legislature in 1904, and was elected Deacon of his Congregational Church in 1907 (Vt Bio 263). The 1910 (1612:6B) and 1920 (1872:6B) censuses reported Harry and Emma and their two single daughters at Johnson. Harry was a merchant in 1900, furniture merchant in 1910, undertaker and furniture [merchant] in 1920. Daughter May was a servant to a private family in 1910, a domestic in 1920. Daughter Jennie was a teacher in 1920.
Harry Maxfield died at Johnson on 6 May 1927 (VT D). He was an undertaker. Emma died at Johnson on 10 October 1929 (VT D)
