ELIJAH KNOWLTON⁷ MAXFIELD was born at Saranac, Clinton County, New York, on 8 April 1848 a son of Nathan Maxfield and his wife Lucinda Knowlton. He died at Ogdensburg, Saint Lawrence County, New York, on 21 November 1915. He married on 1872 MARY EMMA GOODILL. She was born at New Boston, Connecticut, on 23 October 1847 and died at Erie, Erie County, Pennsylvania, on 11 August 1935.

Elijah Maxfield and his wife Mary Goodill had the following children:

4. HERBERT FREEMAN⁸ MAXFIELD b. at Potsdam on 1885; d. at Green River, Sweetwater Co., WY, on 2 July 1903.
5. SCOTT ROSWELL⁸ MAXFIELD b. at Potsdam on 30 March 1889; d. at Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY, on 29 December 1969; m. (1) at Potsdam on 20 May 1915 HELEN THOMAS; m. (2) at Prescott, Greenville co., Ontario, abt. 1929 ELIZABETH A. HYSLOP.
