RUFUS PERCY7 MAXFIELD (Rufus6, Stephen5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Loudon, New Hampshire, on 25 December 1849, according to Dana French (F). When the 1850 Census was taken, Rufus P. Maxfield was seven months old, in Manchester, New Hampshire (1850 Census NH 432:77). Elizabeth Wright reported his birth at Manchester in 1849 (NMGR 8:18). Rufus Percy Maxfield's parents were Rufus Maxfield and his wife Irene Johnson.

Rufus P. Maxfield married SARAH OLIVE C. SMITH (F) about 1874/5 (1900 Census). "Olive" was born at New Hampshire in February 1847 (1900 Census) and died in 1919 (F).

The 1900 Census (949:2:147) reported the childless couple in Loudon:

The record also indicated the couple had been married 25 years, and Olive had not given birth to any children.

The 1920 Census (1012:3B) reported widower Rufus P. Maxfield farming at Center Road, Loudon; Eileen N. Page, age 14, was living with him. In 1929 he was reported living in Loudon with his adopted daughter Cora Hill (NMGR 8:18). Rufus died at Loudon on 23 August 1929 (F).

Rufus and Olive Maxfield had the following adopted child:
