ROUSE BROWN7 MAXFIELD (Rufus6, Eliphalet5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Ohio Town, Herkimer County, New York on 29 June 1847 (Morgan). His parents were Rufus G. Maxfield and his second wife Mehitable Bennett.

Rouse fought in the Civil War from 28 October 1862 to 16 June 1865 (Civ W Sold):

In 1868, at age 21, he was living in Grant Town, Herkimer County (NMGR 7:67). In the 1870 Census he was listed in the Town of Russia, in Herkimer County, in a household with unrelated persons. In that census he was described as 22 years old, male, white, a medical student, born in New York (Morgan).

Rouse Maxfield married ELLA M. MOYER (Morgan) about 1875/6 (1900 Census). She was born at New York on October 1856 (1900 Census), a child of David Moyer of Taberg, Oneida County, New York. Rouse was living in Taberg in 1875 (Morgan). Rouse Maxfield of Taberg was a teacher, county clerk, and pension attorney (Morgan).

In 1900 the Census (1132:2:12) found this family at Prospect Village, in the Town of Trenton, Oneida County, New York:

The census also reported that Ella had two children, one of whom was living.

The 1910 census (1052:1:94A) reported Rouse B. Maxfield, 62, excise agent, and his wife Ella M., 53, on Hinckley street, Trenton, New York.

Rouse Maxfield died at Prospect Village on 29 January 1914 (VR NY).

The 1920 census (1243:3B) reported widow Ella Maxfield at the same location as follows:

The 1930 census (1621:2B) reported the same three persons at the same location. It is not clear if her son-in-law was "Orange" or "Grange" Cowles. He was proprietor of a retail furniture store.

Ella Maxfield died at Prospect on 25 December 1933 (VR NY).

      • In Utica, New York, at 12:30 A.M., April 20, 1886, Bessie Maud Maxfield, daughter of Rouse B. and Ella M. Maxfield, aged 7 years. The remains were brought to Taberg, N.Y. for burial--Rome Citizen 4/23/1886.
