Descendants of John Maxfield
of Salisbury, Massachusetts
Eighth Generation

CARLOS MONROE8 MAXFIELD (John7-6, William5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1 ) was born at Illinois on July 1849 (1900 census), a child of John Nelson Maxfield and his wife Mary Ann Crocker. Carlos evidently moved to Ohio as a young adult, as his wife came from there and their first child was born there.

Carlos Monroe Maxfield married MARY DUFFIE probably before 1879. She was born at Cincinnati, Ohio on 24 February 1862, a child of Joseph Duffie (IL D FS).

The 1880 census (202:125-126) reported this new family at Mayfield Township, DeKalb County, Illinois. The family consisted of Monroe, his wife Mary, born at Ohio, age 20, and son Glenmore, born at Ohio, age 4 months.

The 1885 Kansas State Census (Ks Cen 1885 133:1) reported the family at Seward, Stafford County, Kansas. C. M. Maxfield was a physician, age 36, from Illinois. The rest of the family consisted of Mary, 24, Glen C., 5, Allan, 3, and Alta May, 1. Mary and Glen were born at Ohio, C. M., Allan and Alta May at Illinois.

The 1900 census (247:5A) reported this family at 354 Prairie Avenue, Chicago, Illinois:

Monroe and Mamie had been married 20 years; she had three children, all living.

Carlos Maxfield died at Chicago on 31 March 1908 (IL D).

Widow Mary "Mamie" Maxfield was living with her daughter Alta at New Trier Township, Cook County, Illinois, at the time of the 1910 census (239:1:103B):

This record also indicated that Mamie had four children, two of whom were living. For Harold and Alta this was their first marriage, they had been married three years, and she had one child, living.

The 1920 census reported Mamie living with her daughter Alta at Chicago. Marie Maxfield died at Chicago on 19 June 1925 (IL D FS).
