James Watson Maxfield married ELIZA JANE BROWN at Phillips County, Kansas,on 14 December 1879 (Phillips Co M). Eliza was born at Hixton, Jackson County, Wisconsin, on 23 April 1862 (Lott), a child of Henry Talmage Brown and Elizabeth Doney. They were on his parents' farm in Phillips County at the 1880 Census. Their first child was born at Kansas in 1881.
James Watson Maxfield and family moved to California. He registered to vote at Corning, Tehama County, California, on 29 July 1886, 21 May 1888, 23 May 1894, and 14 April 1896. He registered at Table Rock, Siskiyou County on 19 Aoril 1892 (CA VR). The registration record described him as a farmer with dark complexion, brown eyes, and brown hair, height 5' 9" until 1896, when he was described as fair complexion, hazel eyes, brown hair. Their second child was born at Yreka, Siskiyou County, in 1891; their third and fourth children were born at Corning, Tehama County, in 1894 and 1897.

According to this census record, James and Eliza had been married 21 years. and Eliza had given birth to five children, four of whom were living.

Eliza had been married 31 years; she had four children, three living. The household included one roomer. I find no further reference to son James, and assume he had died. I have not found husband James in the 1910 or 1920 census.
The 1920 census (128:8A) reported Eliza Maxfield, age 57, divorced, at First Street, Davis, Putah Township, Yolo County. The girls were gone and she had two young male roomers.
The 1930 census had entries for Eliza (225:2B) and for James (224:2B). Eliza Maxfield resided at 103 B Street, Davis, age 67, married at 19, a nurse. James W. Maxfield was boarding with George and Lulu Simpson at Main Street, Gerber Township, Tehama Town, Tehama County. James was 70, divorced, married at 22, a carpenter with his own shop.
Eliza Jane (Brown) Maxfield died at Davis, Yolo County, on 28 September 1938 (Lott). James Watson Maxfield died at Corning, Temaha County, on 30 May 1940 (CA D)
