Joseph Maxfield married LUCILLE D. ROBINSON about 1871/2 (1900 census). Lucille was born in New Jersey on July 1848 (1900 census).

The 1880 census (780:391B) reported Joseph B. and Lucille D. Maxfield at Bloomfield, New Jersey. Joseph, age 36, was a bookkeeper, Lucille, age 31, was keeping house. The family included a son, Joseph R., 7, a daughter, Nellie D., 1, and a cousin, Laura Robinson, 19.

The 1900 census (969:1:269A) reported this family at 229 Franklin Street, Bloomfield:

The census also reported that Joseph and Lucille had been married 28 years, and that Lucille had five children, four still living.

Joseph Maxfield died some time before 1920, when Lucille appeared in the census (1028:9B) as a widow, still living at 229 Franklin Street, with her daughter Lucille and two unmarried sisters. Daughter Lucille, age 38, single, worked "shampoing" at home. Sister Mary W. Robinson, age 73, had no occupation; sister Laura V. Robinson, age 58, was a dressmaker.
