JOSEPH5 MAXFIELD (Joseph4-3-2, John1) was born at Warner, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, about 1792-3[1] a son of Joseph Maxfield and his wife Dorothy Worthen. He died probably some time after the 1820 census and before his wife's second marriage in 1825. He married at Strafford, Orange County, Vermont, on 11 June 1818 HANNAH GREEN,[2] who was born sometime between 1794 and 1804. She married as her second husband at Strafford on 23 October 1825 DANIEL ROBERTS.[3]
Joseph Maxfield grew up at Warner, the second of at least six children, and the eldest son.
Joseph Maxfield fought in the War of 1812, a Private, later promoted to Captain, in the 11th regiment of infantry. He enlisted on 15 December 1813, and was discharged at Sackett's Harbor, New York, on 14 December 1814. He was described at enlistment as a twenty year old farmer from Bradford, New Hampshire, born at Warner, 5' 10" tall, with brown eyes, light hair and a light complexion.[4]
The 1820 census reported the Joseph Maxfield family at Strafford consisting of a man and a woman between 16 and 25, and two girls under ten.[5]
