Descendants of Clement Maxfield
of Dorchester, Massachusetts
Sixth Generation

SAMUEL6 MAXFIELD (Samuel5, John4-3, Samuel2, Clement1) was born at Dorchester, Massachusetts, on 4 October 1767, a child of Samuel Maxfield and his wife Hannah Hawes.

MARY BRADLEY married Samuel Maxfield at Boston, Massachusetts, on 8 September 1803, Rev. Joseph Eckley officiating (BRC 30:262). According to her death record, Mary was born at Roxbury, Massachusetts, on 12 February 1780, a child of Isaac and Sarah B. Bradley.

The family of Samuel and Mary Maxfield was reported in Roxbury in every federal census from 1820 to 1860. The censuses before 1850 did not list names of family members, only the numbers in different categories of age and sex. In addition to the parents and the children listed below, the 1820 census (52:72) indicated a male and a female born 1805-10. The 1830 census (60:215), in addition to the parents and the children listed below, indicated a female born 1800-10. The 1840 census (191:150) indicated only the parents and eldest daughter.

The Samuel Maxfield family was reported in Roxbury in the 1850 Census as follows (Norfolk Co., 138):

Name Age Sex Occupation R.E. Birthplace Other
Samuel Maxfield 33 M Mass.
Mary Maxfield 70 F Mass.
Marianna Maxfield 45 F Mass.
Sarah Maxfield 66 F Mass.
Hannah Maxfield 38 F Mass
Elisa Maxfield 38 F Mass.

Probably Samuel's age has been misread, and should be 83, not 33. Mary is his wife; Marianna, Hannah, and Elisa are probably their children. The identity of Sarah Maxfield is unknown.

Samuel Maxfield died at Roxbury on 19 September 1855 (VR Rox 1855:227). The event was recorded as follows:

married, age 88 y of Roxbury, d. Warren St., b. Dorchester, occ.: gentleman, child of Samuel Maxfield and Hannah, old age, bur. Dorchester.
Widow Mary Maxfield was reported in the 1860 Census in Ward 5 of Roxbury as follows:

Widow Mary Maxfield died at Boston, on 11 January 1868 (VR Ma 213:7:70). The record reads:
