Descendants of Clement Maxfield
of Dorchester, Massachusetts
Seventh Generation

SAMUEL 7 MAXFIELD (Samuel6-5, John4-3, Samuel2, Clement1) , Junior was born at Roxbury, Massachusetts, in 1821, probably between 10 April and 9 May, according to his age as given on his death record, the 1850 Census, and the record of his second marriage. He was a child of Samuel Maxfield and his wife Mary Bradley.

SARAH E. S. FROST of Dorchester, Massachusetts, and Samuel Maxfield, Junior, of Roxbury, Massachusetts, published in Dorchester their intentions to marry, on 26 April 1846 (BRC 36:167). They were married there by Rev. Cyrus Hyde Fay on 20 May 1846 (GR 77:149). Sarah was born at Dorchester, according to the death record of one of her children, about 1822/3, according to the 1860 Census, .

Samuel Maxfield was called a painter on the birth records of his children in 1847 and 1849, and the 1850 census. He was called a laborer on a child's birth record in 1855, a baker on a child's birth record in 1860 and in the census of that year, a driver on a child's birth record in 1862, and a baker again on his second marriage record in 1872.

The Samuel Maxfield family of Roxbury was reported in the 1850 Census as follows:

Name Age Sex Occupation R.E. Birthplace Other
Samuel Maxfield 29 M painter $ 3000 Mass
Julia Maxfield 27 F Mass
Josephine Maxfield 3 F Mass
Georgiana Maxfield 1 F Mass

"Julia" was perhaps a mistake of the census taker for "Sarah." Sarah was the mother of record of the children in the 1850 Census, and later children.

The growing Samuel Maxfield family of Ward 5, Roxbury, was counted in the 1860 Census on 27 June 1860, as follows:

Name Age Sex Occupation R.E. P.E. Birthplace
Samuel Maxfield 39 M bread driver $ 1200 $ 200 Mass
Sarah A. S. Maxfield 27 F Mass
Josephine Maxfield 12 F Mass school
Georgiana Maxfield 10 F Mass school
Mary C. Maxfield 2/12 F Mass

Sarah Maxfield died some time before the 1870 census, which reported this family at Word 14, Boston, Boston Highlands Post Office:

Name Age Sex Race Occupation R.E. P.E. Birth Other
Maxfield, Saml 48 M W drives bakery wagon $3000 MA
Maxfield, Josie 22 F W school teacher MA

Samuel Maxfield married ANN F. JOY Allen at Boston on 27 February 1872 (VR Ma 246:34:597). The event was recorded as follows;

Ann F. Allen of Boston, 38 b. Ellsworth, Me. to Ivory H. and Betsey Joy; 2d;
by H. W. King, of Boston

This record tells us that the bride was born Ann F. Joy in Ellsworth, Maine, about 1833/4, and had previously been married to a man surnamed Allen.

Samuel Maxfield died at Boston on 9 April 1874 (VR Ma 267:72:1988), recorded as follows:
