Descendants of John Maxfield
of Salisbury, Massachusetts
Sixth Generation

MILO6 MAXFIELD (Isaac5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Vermont about 1810-1,[1] a child of Isaac Maxfield and his wife Phebe Hill. Milo married JANET JAMES, who was born at New York about 1825-6.[2]

I have no information on Milo's family of origin after the 1820 census, at Chazy, Clinton County, New York, and no further information on Milo until the the birth of his first child at New York about 1846-7, his second child born at Wisconsin about 1848-9, and the 1850 Census at Wisconsin. The family of Milo and Janet Maxfield was reported in the 1850 census at Beaver Dam Township # 2, Dodge County, Wisconsin. The family consisted of Milo, 39, Janet, 24, Clarissa, 3, Judson, 1, Sarah C., 3 months, and Milo's mother Phebe, 76.[3] According to the birth dates, this family lived at New York about 1846-7, and had been in Wisconsin since 1848.

The 1860 census reported this family at Lowell, Dodge County, as follows:[4]

Name Age Sex Occupation R.E. P.E. Birthplace Other
Milo Maxfield 51 M $200 VT
Jeanette Maxfield 37 F NY
Clarissa Maxfield 14 F NY school
Judson Maxfield 13 M WI school
Caroline Maxfield 10 F WI school
Theresa Maxfield 8 F WI school
Adelaide Maxfield 5 F WI school
Fortunet Maxfield 3 F WI
Frank Maxfield 2 M WI

I have no further information on Milo and Janet. In the decade of the 1860s Judson served in the Army, Clarissa, Judson, Caroline and Eva all married. The 1870 Census reported Adie Maxfield, age 16, a domestic servant in the household of C. A. and Lettie Miller of Wasioja Township, Dodge County.[5] An "A Maxfield," who was the right age for Fortunet Maxfield, age 13, was reported in the household of G. M. and Bell Harmon, of Concord Township, Dodge County.[6]

Milo Maxfield and his wife Janet had the following children:

  1. CLARISSA7 MAXFIELD b. at New York about 1846-7;[7] m. at Pine Island, Goodhue County, Minnesota, on 11 September 1862 CHARLES HUDSON[8] b. at New York about 1845-6.[9]
