Descendants of John Maxfield

JUDSON B.7 MAXFIELD (Milo6, Isaac5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Wisconsin about July 1845 (1900 census; 1841 in 1920 census, 1844/5 in 1910 census, 1846/7 in 1860, 1880 censuses, 1848/9 in 1850 census) a child of Milo and Janet Maxfield.

Judson Maxfield served in the Army in the last year of the Civil War (Civ War Soldiers):

Name: Judson Maxfield; State: Minnesota

Enlisted in Company B, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Minnesota on 30 Sep. 1864.
Mustered out Company B, 1st Heavy Artillery Regiment Minnesota on 17 Jun. 1865
Judson Maxfield married MARY FAIRBANKS at Dodge County, Minnesota, on 21 January 1869 (Mn M). Mary was born at Indiana about 1851/2 (1880 census). The Judson Maxfield family was reported in the 1880 census (617:27C) at Carson, Cottonwood County, Minnesota:

Line Name Race Sex Age Related MS Occupation B FB MB
5 Judson Maxfield W M 33 S laborer WI VT NY
6 Mary Maxfield W F 28 wife S keeping house IN NY

I don't know why the census taker recorded them as single, as we have a marriage record.

Judson Maxfield married as his second wife MARY JANE BURNHAM at Plymouth County, Iowa, on 20 May 1899 (Plymouth Co Ia M). Mary Jane was born at Iowa on October 1883 (1900 census; 1881/2 in 1910 census).

The new Judson Maxfield family was reported in the 1900 census (759:2B) at Cass County, Minnesota:

Maxfield, Maud J. wife W F Oct 1883 M IA NY WI
Burnham, Mary sister-in-law W F Dec 1881 S IA NY WI

The record also indicated that the couple had been married one year, and she had no children. Note that on this and the following census records Judson says his mother was born in France, in the previous records she was born in New York. I have no explanation for this.

The Judson Maxfield family was reported in the 1910 census (1140:10A) at Ayr Township, Cass County, North Dakota:

This record also indicated Judson and Mary had been married 11 years, and she had two children, both living. Mary died some time before the 1920 census. In 1920 (824:7B) Judson Maxfield was in Walker village, Shingobee Township, Cass County, Minnesota:
