CYRUS6 MAXFIELD (James5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Union, Lincoln County (now Knox County) Maine, on 23 September 1824, a child of James Batchelder Maxfield and his wife Hannah Batchelder.[1] He was living in the 1900 Census. He married at Rock Island County, Illinois, on 14 September 1851 ELIZA G. PRENTIS,[2] who was born at Warsaw, Hancock County, Illinois of 17 February 1828 and died at New Boston, Mercer County, Illinois, on April 1886.[3] Eliza was the daughter of Susannah (Brookhart) and Stanton Prentiss.

Cyrus grew up at Union. When he was fourteen he went west with his family to Indiana. When he was fifteen his mother died. He then traveled with his father and siblings to Ohio, where his father died when Cyrus was still fifteen.

Cyrus Maxfield, age 24, laborer, was reported living with his brother Josiah in New Boston in the 1850 Census.[4]

The 1860 Census reported Cyrus and family at New Boston Township, Mercer County, Cyrus Maxfield, 32, livery man, Eliza, 32, Ada, 7, in school, and Sue, 7.[5]

The family of Cyrus and Eliza Maxfield was reported in the 1870 Census in New Boston Township and Post Office as follows:[6]

I have no further record of daughter Sue.

Adella married in 1873. The 1880 Census reported the Cyrus Maxfield family at New Boston, consisting of Cyrus, 56, stock trimmer, Eliza, 50, keeping house, Ralph, 22, working on a farm, and Harry, 13, at home.[7]

Eliza died in 1886. The 1900 Census reported Cyrus Maxfield, widower, born September 1826, stock raiser, boarding in a home at New Boston.[8]

I have no further record on Cyrus Maxfield.

Cyrus Maxfield and his wife Eliza Prentis had the following children:

  2. SUE7 MAXFIELD b. at Illinois about 1852-3.[12]
  3. RALPH7 MAXFIELD b. at Illinois in July 1859,[13] m. at Mercer County on 31 January 1893 FLORENCE I. (PATTERSON) BANER[14] b. at Iowa in October 1859,[15] d. at New Boston on 1912.[16] Florence previously m(1). PHILIP BANER b. at Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, on 1 May 1849, d. at New Boston, on 2 December 1938.[17] Child of Florence and Philip:
    1. Nina Baner b. at Illinois on February 1877; m. about 1899-1900 Charles A. Loosley b. at Illinois on November 1876.[18]
  4. HARRY PRENTISS7 MAXFIELD b. at Illinois on 12 February 1867
