HIRAM DANIEL6 MAXFIELD (Hiram5, Joshua4-3, Joseph2, John1) was born at New York on 17 October 1833 a son of Hiram Maxfield and his first wife Sarah Irish . He died at Richfield, Genesee County, Michigan, on 20 January 1885.[1] He married about 1865-6 HENRIETTA TRUAX.[2] She was born at Genesee County on 20 February 1847, a daughter of Harry Truax and Rebecca Allen. She died at Hadley, Lapeer County, Michigan, on 30 May 1917.[3]

The second of five children, Hiram Daniel Maxfield moved with his family to Michigan when he was about three years old. He married Henrietta Truax when he was 32 years old and she was eighteen. The 1870 Census reported them at Atlas, Genesee County (Grand Blanc Post Office), immediately before his parents. He was called "Danver Maxwell" age 36, with real estate valued at $2500 and a personal estate of $650. He was a farmer.[4]

The 1880 Census reported this family, with their three children, again at Atlas Township:[5]

The 1894 Michigan state census reported Hiram D. Maxfield, 60, at Hadley, with his wife, Henrietta, 47, and children James E., 22 and Henry, 18.[6] Daughter Sarah was listed as a "hired girl," age 20, in the household of George and Sarah Gregory of Hadley.[7]

Son Janes married in February of 1900. The census in June of that year found James and his new wife with his parents:[8]

Other information on this record: Henrietta had three children, all of whom were living; H. D. and Henrietta had been married 34 years; James and Minnie had been married less than a year, and had no children. Sarah Maxfield, born February 1876, was working as a domestic servant in the home of Eugene and Florence Goodrich of Atlas Township.[9]

Sarah married in 1902, John Henry married about 1904-5. The 1910 Census reported parents Daniel and Harriet with their son Henry and his family at Hadley Township.[10] James and Minnie were living in Flint, Genesee County.[11]

Hiram D. Maxfield died in 1913 from a failure of vital forces following surgery on his hip after he slipped and fell off his porch, a distance of about two feet.[12] Henrietta died in 1917 from paralysis.[13]

James Emery Maxfield and his wife Minnie were recorded in the 1920 Census at Flint. He was a carpenter buiding houses.[14]

James Emery Maxfield died in 1922 from apoplexy. His death record described him as a retired foreman of an automobile factory.[15] Widow Minnie Maxfield was living alone at Flint in the 1930 Census.[16] When Minnie died in 1939 she had nephritis, also myocarditis and senility.[17]

Hiram Daniel Maxfield and his wife Henrietta Truax had the following children:

  1. JAMES EMERY7 MAXFIELD b. at Atlas on 24 November 1871;[18] d. at Flint on 3 July 1922;[19] m. at Flint on 21 February 1900 MINNIE MANN,[20] b. at Hadley on 1 March 1869, d. at Atlas on 30 January, 1939, child of John P. and Mary (Kerr) Mann.[21]
  2. SARAH R.7 MAXFIELD b. at Atlas on 23 February 1874;[22] d. at Flint on March 1969;[23] m. at Flint on 25 March 1902 FRANK FARRAND, b. at Michigan about 1866-7.[24]
  3. JOHN HENRY7 MAXFIELD b. at Goodrich on 10 July 1876.
