Descendants of John Maxfield
of Salisbury, Massachusetts
Seventh Generation

GEORGE FRANCIS7 MAXFIELD (William6, David5, Edmund4, Timothy3-2, John1) was born at New Bedford, Massachusetts, on 5 June 1847 (VR NB 1:323), a child of William Maxfield and his wife Maria P. Bourne. The birth record named him "Albert Francis." However, he was called George F. in the 1850 and 1860 censuses, and the marriage record of George F. Maxfield points to these parents and this birth year. Perhaps he was a twin, or perhaps the parents changed their mind about his name shortly after his birth was recorded, or perhaps the Town Clerk made an error in recording.

George F. Maxfield married MARY E. HUMPHREY at New Bedford on 28 October 1872 (VR Ma 244:141:226; NB Merc M, 787). This marriage was recorded as follows:

George F. Maxfield of New Bedford, 25, tinman, b. New Bedford to William and Maria, 1st;
Mary E. Humphrey of New Bedford, 24, b. New Bedford to Isaac and Cordelia, 1st;
by O. A. Roberts, clergy.
--VR Ma 244:141:226
Mary Humphrey, a child of Isaac and Cordelia Humphrey, was born at New Bedford in November 1848 (1900 Census; cem. record), or at Waldoboro, Maine (death record). George Maxfield was a "tinman,"

The 1900 Census (638:5A) reported George, Mary, and their 24 year old son George Junior living at 115 Grinnell Street, New Bedford.

George F. Maxfield died at 115 Grinnell Street, New Bedford, on 17 June 1901, age 54 years (Oak Gr Cem QQ-42). His body was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, New Bedford, on 20 June (Oak Gr Cem QQ-42). Mary Maxfield died at 3 Keene Street, New Bedford, on 29 January 1905, age 56 years and 2 months (Oak Gr Cem QQ-42). Her body was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, New Bedford, on 31 January (Oak Gr Cem QQ-42).

George and Mary Maxfield had the following child:

  1. GEORGE FREDERICK8 MAXFIELD b. at New Bedford on 6 July 1875
