WILLIAM MERRY7 MAXFIELD (Collins6, Abraham5, Edmund4, Timothy3-2, John1) was born at Dartmouth, Massachusetts on 23 November 1856 (VR Dart(H) Births 2:16:1). His parents were Collins Smith Maxfield and his second wife Sophronie Merry.

William M. Maxfield married LAURA B. CHASE at Dartmouth on 28 March 1880 (VR Dart(H) Marriages 2:54:7). The marriage was recorded as follows:

William M. Maxfield of Dartmouth, 23, farmer, b. Dartmouth to Collins F. and Sophronie (Merry) Maxfield; 1st;
Laura B. Chase, of Dartmouth, 18; b. Dartmouth to Leonard M. and Hannah (Mosher) Chase; 1st;
by A. M. Higgins, clergy, New Bedford.

Laura B. Chase was born at Dartmouth, according to the above marriage record, on 9 October 1861 according to her age at death on the cemetery record, to Leonard M. Chase and Hannah Mosher.

William M. Maxfield was called a farmer in Dartmouth on this 1880 marraige record and on the 1881 and 1882 birth records of his children.

William and Laura had been married twenty years, and Laura had five children, all living.

The 1910 census (574:1:267A) found this family at Faunce's Corner Road, Dartmouth, where William was engaged in farming. All the children were still at home, except Benjamin, and the household also included Laura's mother, Hanna S. Chase, age 81, widowed. Sarah, Mary and Abbie were all working as weavers in the cotton mills.

William M. Maxfield died at 257 Coffin Avenue, New Bedford, on 18 May 1917, age 60 years, 8 months, and 25 days (Oak Gr Cem E-14). His body was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery on 22 May (Oak Gr Cem E-14).

The 1920 Census (685:5B) reported widow Laura Maxfield and family at 257 Coffin Avenue, New Bedford:

In the 1930 census Laura Maxfield, widow, age 68, resided at 32 Richmond Street, New Bedford, with her daughters unmarried Sarah and Mary, ages 49 and 47. Mary was a weaver in a mill.

Laura Maxfield died at Saint Luke's Hospital, New Bedford, on 4 November 1939, age 70 years and 26 days (Oak Gr Cem E-14). Her body was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery 7 November.
