Alton Maxfield married EDITH MAE CROOKS about 1917/8. Edith was born at Massachusetts on 3 April 1896, according to her age at death.

Alton Maxfield registered for the draft at Bristol County, Massachusetts, on 12 September 1918 (WWI Draft), reporting the following:

The 1920 Census (686:8A) reported Alton and Edith Maxfield at 79 Pierce Street, New Bedford. Alton, age 21, was an electrician for a gas company. Edith his wife was 23, their daughter Ruth, one year old.

Alton Maxfield died at 493 Chancery Street, New Bedford, Massachusetts, on 6 June 1956, age 58 years, 3 months and 23 days (Oak Gr Cem E-14). He was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, New Bedford, on 9 June 1956. Edith Mae (Crooks) Maxfield died at Saint Luke's Hospital, New Bedford, on 1 December 1971, age 75 years, 7 months and 28 days. Her last residence was 494 Chancery Street (Oak Gr Cem E-14). She was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery.
