John D. Maxfield and MERCY ADELAINE TABER were married at New Bedford, Massachusetts, on 22 December 1863 (NB Merc M 787). Mercy was born at New Bedford on 9 July 1844 to Stephen W. Taber, a housewright, and his wife Sarah W. (Chapman) Taber (VR NB 1:466).
The 1870 Census (605:1:117A) reported John D. and Mercy Maxfield at New Bedford, in the home of Mercy's mother, widow Sarah W. Taber.
Mercy (Taber) Maxfield died at New Bedford on 13 January 1871:
