DORSEY7 MAXFIELD (Gilbert6, William5, David4, probably Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Mount Vernon, Knox County, Ohio, on 23 November 1829, a child of Gilbert Belcher Maxfield and his wife Amelia Graves. The date and place of birth, and his parentage, is given on his death record (OH D 47085).

Dorsey Maxfield married as his first wife SARAH C. COOK at Delaware County, Ohio, on 12 June 1850 (OH M). Sarah was born at Virginia on 9 October 1831 (Maple Gr Cem). The 1850 Census (675:104) reported Dorsey Maxfield, 21, born at Ohio, farmer, and Sarah Maxfield, 19, born Virginia, living at Berkshire Township, Delaware County, Ohio. The 1860 Census (957:95) reported them in the same township, Vans Valley Post Office. The family consisted of Dorsey, 30, Sarah, 28, and Mary C. Maxfield, 2. Dorsey Maxfield was a farmer in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses. The 1880 census called him a salesman of marble, in 1893 he was called a "popular traveling salesman for DeBow Brothers of Granville," the 1900 census called him a salesman of tombstones, and his death record in 1909 called him a salesman. His cemetery record gave him the title "Reverend." I have no other record of his being a minister.

Eleanor (Holmes) Maxfield died at Granville on 13 August 1893 (OH D). On 23 November 1893 Dorsey Maxfield married as his third wife SARAH JANE (VAN ATTER) HARDS, at Licking County (OH M).
