Dorsey Maxfield married as his first wife SARAH C. COOK at Delaware County, Ohio, on 12 June 1850 (OH M). Sarah was born at Virginia on 9 October 1831 (Maple Gr Cem). The 1850 Census (675:104) reported Dorsey Maxfield, 21, born at Ohio, farmer, and Sarah Maxfield, 19, born Virginia, living at Berkshire Township, Delaware County, Ohio. The 1860 Census (957:95) reported them in the same township, Vans Valley Post Office. The family consisted of Dorsey, 30, Sarah, 28, and Mary C. Maxfield, 2. Sarah (Cook) Maxfield died on 23 February 1867 (Maple Gr Cem).
Dorsey Maxfield married as his second wife ELEANOR HOLMES at Delaware County on 15 March 1868 (OH M). Eleanor was born at Newark, New Jersey, on 11 May 1837 (Maple Gr Cem; OH D). The 1870 Census (1196:216A) reported Dorsey, 40, Ella R., 34, and Dorsey's child by his first wife, Mary b., 12, at Berkshire Township, Galena Post Office.
The 1880 Census (1040:148B) reported this family at Granville, Licking County, Ohio. The family consisted of Dorsey, 50, his wife Ella R., 42, his daughter by his first wife, Mary B., 22, and his daughter by his second wife, Olive A., 5.
Dorsey Maxfield was a farmer in the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses. The 1880 census called him a salesman of marble, in 1893 he was called a "popular traveling salesman for DeBow Brothers of Granville," the 1900 census called him a salesman of tombstones, and his death record in 1909 called him a salesman. His cemetery record gave him the title "Reverend." I have no other record of his being a minister.
Eleanor (Holmes) Maxfield died at Granville on 13 August 1893 (OH D). On 23 November 1893 Dorsey Maxfield married as his third wife SARAH JANE (VAN ATTER) HARDS, at Licking County (OH M). Sarah Jane was born at New Jersey on 27 September 1829 (OH D 16388). The 1900 Census (1241293:9B) reported Dorsey Maxfield, born November 1830, and his wife Sarah, born September 1830, living at Granville village and township.
Dorsey Maxfield died of old age at Granville on 26 September 1909 (OH D 47085). Widow Sarah Maxfield, 80, was living on Granger Street in Granville at the time of the 1910 Census (1203:7A:24). She died at Newark, Licking County, on 15 March 1912, of old age, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Jenkins (OH D 16388; Newark Adv 16 Mar 1912, p. 2).
