MONTRAVILLA7 MAXFIELD (Nathan6, probably Eliphalet5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Vermont or New York about 1823/4 (census records: 1850 record b. VT, 1860 record b. NY) a child of Nathan Maxfield and his wife Lucinda Knowlton. Montravilla was somewhere between the ages of ten and fourteen when his family moved from Vermont to New York. In 1850 (Census 489:257A) the census reported Monteville Maxfield, 24, carpenter, living in a household of ten, including many single working men. With him was his sister Margaret, age ten.

Montravilla Maxfield married MIRANDA ________, probably some time about 1854 (their first child was born about 1834/5). Miranda was born at New York about 1836/7 (census records). The 1860 Census (855:926) reported the family at Parishville, Saint Lawrence County, New York (Potsdam Post Office). Montraville Maxfield, 34, was a carpenter and joiner with real estate worth $200 and a personal estate of $100. Miranda was 23, Ida 5, Ellen 3, Effie 1. All were born at New York.

Montravilla fought in the Civil War, enlisting on 15 December 1863, and dying of disease at Washington, D.C. on 8 April 1864 (Civ W). His record follows:

The 1870 Census (1099:51B) reported the remainder of the family in the village of Ellsworth, Town of Pierrepont, Saint Lawrence County.
