GEORGE CLARK7 MAXFIELD (Oren6, Eliphalet5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Orono, Maine, on 22 May 1831 (NMGR 7:87-88), a child of Oren and Chloe Washburn (Dexter) Maxfield.

Elizabeth Wright described George and family in 1928:

As a child he was taken to Illinois with his parents. There he lived until February, 1874, when he removed with his family to Fairmount, Nebraska, where he made his home until his death. He became a member of the A.F.& A. masons at Toulon, Illinois, in 1852. On 14 August 1862, he enlisted in Co. F, 112th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers, and participated in fifty-two battles and skirmishes of the Civil War, before he received his honorable discharge, 10 September 1864. --NMGR 7:88
George C. Maxfield married at Toulon, Illinois, on 3 January 1864, CYNTHIA C. PARRISH (IL M; NMGR 7:88), daughter of Esquire and Sophia (Aulthouse) Parish. She was born at Toulon on 13 November 1845 (NMGR 7:88). Wright wrote of Cynthia,
She was a charter member of Mt. Moriah Chapter no. 38 Order of the Eastern Star, of which she is a Past Worthy Matron; she served as treasurer of this Chapter for eighteen years. She is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Fairmont, Nebraska, having placed her letter there in 1874 --NMGR 7:88
The 1870 Census (278:1:441B) reported George (age 29) and Cynthia (age 25) at Toulon Township, Stark County, Illinois, on the same page as George's father Orin. George was a farmer with real estate of $4000 and a personal estate of $1065. Cynthia was born in Illinois to foreign born parents.

The 1880 Census (748:450A) reported this family at Fairmont, Fillmore County, Nebraska:

The 1890 Veteran's Census reported (1890 Vet Sch) George C. Maxfield, a Second Lieutenant in Company F, 112th Infantry, served from 14 August 1862 to 12 September, 1864, in 1890 resided at Fairmont, Nebraska, and had a gunshot wound in the left thigh.

George Maxfield died at Fairmount on 1 May 1900 (NMGR 7:88). The Census later that year (926:2:91) reported widow Cynthia Maxfield, born November 1845, living in Fairmont and keeping boarders. The census report further indicated that Cynthia had two children of whom one was living, and that her father was English-speaking born in Canada and her mother was French-speaking born in Canada.

Cynthia (Parrish) Maxfield married secondly, on 21 November 1907, JOSPEH BURNS (NMGR 7:88), son of Matthew Spense and Margaret (Hanson) Burns, who was born 11 March 1856 (NMGR 7:88).

George and Cynthia Maxfield had the following children:
