"Colenel" was evidently the nickname of son Elias Ellsworth.
The 1880 Census (252:378) found this family in Goshen Township, Stark County. The family consisted of J. B. (age 43, brickmaker), wife Sarah A. (age 39), daughter Mary (age 18), son Elias E. (age 17) and daughter Luella (age 4).
Sarah died in May of 1892 (NMGR 7:89).
John B. Maxfield married second, Mrs. MATHILDA (HOADLEY) MASON, at Stark County on 5 February 1895 (IL M). Mathilda was born at New York in November 1838 (1900 Census). She had previously married, probably before 1859, a man surnamed MASON, who was born in Rhode Island, and probably died before 1895.
The 1900 Census (345:10B) found John B. Maxfield (born at Maine in June 1837, farmer) and his wife Matilda (b. at New York in November 1838) at Toulon Township. They had been married five years; Matilda had one child, who was living.
John B. Maxfield died on 9 January 1910 (NMGR 7:89).
Widow Mathilda Maxfield (age 80) was reported in the 1920 Census (409:2B) at Toulon Township in the household of her son-in-law Charles T. Hoadley, (age 64, farmer) and daughter Abbie I. Hoadley (age 60, born at New York).
