NATHANIEL DEXTER7 MAXFIELD (Oren6, Eliphalet5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Toulon, Illinois, on 15 August 1847 (NMGR 7:90), a child of Oren Maxfield and his wife Chloe Dexter.

SOPHIA PARISH married Nathaniel D. Maxfield at Toulon on 5 December 1872 (IL M). A daughter of Esquire Parrish and Sophia Aulthouse, Sophia Parish was born at Toulon on 19 August 1852 (NMGR 7:91).

The Nathaniel Maxfield family lived on a farm near Toulon until about 1882. Then they moved to a farm near Fairmont, Nebraska. In 1901 Nathaniel and Sophia retired from the farm and moved into the town of Fairmont (NMGR 7:90).

The 1880 Census (252:433) reported this family in West Toulon Township, Stark County, consisting of Dexter, wife Sophia (age 26), and children Chloe (age 6), Fred (age 4) and Otis C. (age 2).

The 1900 Census (926:2:83A) reported the family at Fairmont:

The Census record also indicated that Sophia had five children, all living.

The 1910 Census (845:3:61B) reported Dexter N. Maxfield, 63, his wife Sophie, 58, and daughter Genevieve E., 17, living at Violet Avenue, Fairmont.

The 1920 Census (985:9B) reported the family living on Violet Avenue, Fairmont, and consisting of N. Dexter, Sophia, and daughter Ethel G., who was a stenographer.

Nathaniel Dexter died at Fairmont on 31 August 1920 (NMGR 7:90). Sophia, his widow, died in Lincoln, Nebraska, on 31 August 1923 (NMGR 7:91).
