The 1910 Census (890:115B) reported this young family at 307 Danforth Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey. The family consisted of Charles H., 32, foreman at a coffee grill, his wife Lillian, 27, their children Wilma, 9, and Irving, 8, and Charles' brother, William, 23, who was a bookkeeper for a wholesale tea and coffee concern. Charles and Lillian had been married nine years.
The 1920 Census (1069:12A) reported Charles H. and Elizabeth Maxfield and family at 11 Spruce Street, Crawford Township, Union County, New Jersey. Charles, age 43, was foreman at a Tea and Coffee House. Elizabeth his wife was 37. They had a daughter Wilma, age 17, a nurse in training school. Their three sons were Irving, age 15, clerk for a Trust Company, Robert, age 5, and Raymond age three years and four months.
The 1930 Census (1385:6A) reported this family at 8 South Avenue West, Crawford Township:

The record also indicated that Charles was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. The occupation can be explained by an obituary notice: Charles worked in the garage of the Singer Manufacturing Company.
When Charles registered for the "old man's" draft at Union County, New Jersey, on 27 April 1942 (WWII Draft), he reported the following:
