ARTHUR A.8 MAXFIELD (Hampton7, Harry6, William5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Vermont on September 1869 (1900 census), a child of Hampton L. Maxfield and his wife Ermina A. McClellan. Arthur grew up in northern Vermont, but as an adult lived in Massachusetts.

Arthur Maxfield married IDA M. RUSH at Melrose, Massachusetts, on 28 August 1898 (MA VR 479:290:70). The record states:

Chas. L. Jackson, minister of the gospel, 51 Highland Ave., Melrose
Ida was born at Monticello, Maine about March 1875 (1900 census).

The 1900 Census (657:14B) reported the family at 51 Brookline Street, Cambridge, Massachusetts:

The 1920 census (714:4A) reported the family at 61 Central Avenue, Malden, Massachusetts. Arthur A., 50, was electrical engineer for a publisher; Ida, wife, was 44; Doris E., daughter, 19, was stock keeper for a publisher; Susie M., daughter, was 16.

By 1930 (924:13A) the family at 61 Central Avenue had evolved:
