MOSES B.8 MAXFIELD (William7, David6, possibly Isaac5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Wisconsin about October 1869 (census records), a child of William Frederick Maxfield and his wife Lydia Grimmer. Moses' family moved to Nebraska sometime between 1876 and 1879. When Moses was nine years old, his mother died. The family scattered; the 1880 Census (750:341D) reported Moses, age eleven, at Deep Well, Hamilton County, Nebraska, in the household of Michael and Frances Curtin.

Moses Maxfield married KATHERINE M. ________ about 1894/5. They were reported in the 1900 Census (319:4A) at Nelson Township, Lee County, Illinois:

Moses and Catherine had been married five years. Catherine had given birth to two children, of whom one was living.

The 1910 Census (302:13A) found this family at 518 Ninth Street, Dixon, Lee County, Illinois:

Information on years of marriage and number of children was consistent with the 1900 Census. As Moses was raised by others from the age of nine, it is understandable if he did not know where his parents were born.

Moses and Katherine Maxfield must have divorced, as Mrs Katherine Maxfield of Dixon married JOHN HOLINSKI of Dixon at Chicago on 1 November 1915 (Cook Co M). Moses Maxfield married MELINDA E. HEASLEY at Jerome, Jerome County, Idaho, on 28 October 1920 (ID M). Melinda was born at Missouri about 1851/2. She was first married about 1878. "Heasley" is probably her married name. The 1830 Census (400:28) found Moses and Melinda at Jerome:

Moses was first married at the age of 24, Malinda at 26.

Melinda Maxfield died at Jerome on 2 September 1939 (rootsweb D).
