William Frederick Maxfield married LYDIA W. GRIMMER at Shawano, Shawano County, Wisconsin, on 21 April 1862 (WI M), a daughter of William and Claricy Grimmer. This would make her a sister of Thomas Grimmer who married William's aunt Elizabeth. The 1870 census (1739:338A) reported them in the Town of Hartland, Shawano County (Bonduel Post Office):

Lydia (Grimmer) Maxfield died at Hamilton County, Nebraska, on 10 May 1879. The death was reported in the Shawano County Journal on 7 June 1879 as follows (Ziereis):
OBITUARY - Died - May 10th, 1879 in Hamilton County, Nebraska, in the 35th year of her age, L. W. MAXFIELD, wife of W. F. Maxfield. Her funeral was preached at the Soward school house on the 11th inst., from JOB 14:19, "But man dieth and wasteth away; yes, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?" Her remains were deposited in the Soward graveyard, to await that voice that awakens the dead. After the mother's death, the family became scattered. The 1880 census (750:284C) reported W. F. Maxfield, 50, and his newest daughter Sarah, 6, at Scoville, Hamilton County, in the household of Edward C. and Mary A. Lewis. W. F. was a laborer. Frank Maxfield, 18, was in the household of Fletcher and Matilday Whitcomb, at York County, Nebraska (757:510A). Moses Maxfield, 11, and Winfield Maxfield, 16 (could this be Frederick?), were at Deep Well, Hamilton County, in the home of Michael and Frances Curtin. (750:341D). Lovisa A. Maxfield, 12 (could this be Alice?) resided at the Town of Union, Hamilton County, in the home of Thomas and Mary Ellen Sorrels (750:294.4). Levi Maxfield, age 9, was recorded as a ward in the household of H. J. and Bertha Bridenfelt of Scoville Precinct, Hamilton County. Vernon, age 1, had been adopted by William and Martha Garrison and was living at Honey Creek, Delaware County, Iowa. I have not located a record of Dayon Maxfield or Harry Charles Maxfield in that census.
W. F. Maxfield died on 8 October 1898.
