CHARLES CRANDALL8 MAXFIELD (Samuel7, Nathan6, probably Eliphalet5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Potsdam, Saint Lawrence County, New York, on 3 April 1860 (Crandall, census records; born Hannawa Falls according to Roch Cat), a child of Samuel Maxfield and his wife Martha Crandall. Charles studied at Toronto Baptist College, in Ontario, from 1885 to 1888. He received a degree from Rochester Theological Seminary, Rochester, New York, in 1889, and was ordained into the Baptist ministry at Hilton, Monroe County, New York, on 15 November 1889. He served the Baptist Church at Hilton from September 1889 to November 1892 (Roch Cat).

About 1890 Charles Crandall Maxfield married LILLIAN H. ________. She was born at New York about August 1868 (1900 census).

The New York state census, on 16 February 1892 (NY Cen 1892) reported the family at Parma, Monroe County, consisting of Chas. Maxfield, 32, clergyman, Lillian Maxfield, 24, and Anna A. Maxfield, 58. I cannot identify Anna with any certainty.

Charles Crandall Maxfield served the Conklin Avenue Baptist Church, of Binghamton, New York, from December 1892 to September 1896. He served the Baptist Church at Oneida, Madison County, New York, from September 1896 to 1902 (Roch Cat). The 1900 Census (1072:8B) reported the family at 19 Cherry Street, Oneida village: 1900 Census

The record also stated that Charles and Lillian had been married ten years, and that she had given birth to one child, who was living.

Charles Crandall Maxfield engaged in evangelistic work in Connecticut and Massachusetts from 1902 to 1906 (Roch Cat). He died at Springfield, Massachusetts, on 9 January 1907 (MA VR 92:212:29), from pulmonary tuberculosis.

The 1910 Census (593:4A) reported widow Lillian Maxfield, 40, and her daughter Kathryn, 14, at 73 Kenwood Park, Springfield. The 1920 and 1930 censuses both record "Charles Maxfield,", female, of the age of Lillian, with daughter Kathryn. Undoubtedly "Mrs. Charles Maxfield" is intended. The 1920 Census (703:6B) reported the family at 15 Temple Street, Springfield, consisting of [Mrs.] Charles Maxfield, 50, daughter Catherine, 23, a psychologist for an institute for the blind, and three boarders, all single women, Lida Marsan, 30, a doctor's assistant in an office, Dora Brown, 27, a school teacher, and Gertrude Hounand, 30, a printer in an office. The 1930 Census (1667:13A) reported mother and daughter at 115 Radford Street, Yonkers, New York. Daughter Katheryn, 34 and single, worked as a psychologist for a foundation for the blind.

Charles Crandall and Lillian Maxfield had the following child:
