Descendants of John Maxfield
of Salisbury, Massachusetts
Eighth Generation

FRANK8 MAXFIELD (Elmer7, Paschal6, Obadiah5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Delton, Sauk County, Wisconsin on 28 November 1876 (WI B), a child of Elmer P. and Lucy Maxfield.

Frank Maxfield married MYRTLE E. GIFFORD at Sauk County, Wisconsin, on 29 March 1906 (WI M). Myrtle was born at Wisconsin on 18 December 1884 (SSDI), the child of James A. Gifford and Betsey Cole.

The 1910 census (1705:10A) reported this family at Wisconsin Avenue, Kilbourn, Columbia County, Wisconsin:

Name Related Sex Race Age MS B FB MB Occupation
Maxfield, Frank head M W 36 M1 WI WI WI laborer, street
Maxfield, Mary wife F W 26 M1 WI WI WI none
Maxfield, Helen daughter F W 2 S WI WI WI none

The household included two boarders. Frank and Mary had been married four years. Mary had one child, who was living. I find no further reference to a child named Helen, but later census records list a son, Raymond, born about the same time Helen was supposed to have been born.

Frank and Myrtle Maxfield divorced some time before 1930; they appear to have been living separate in 1920. Frank Maxfield made no montion of his wife when he registered for the draft at Jefferson County, Wisconsin, on 12 September 1918 (WWI Draft):

The 1920 census (1989:12B) found Frank Maxfield at Ixonia Township, Jefferson County, Wisconsin. He was in a household of three male state road workers. Frank Maxfield, 44, married, born at Wisconsin, was a laborer on the state road. Raymond Maxfield, age eleven, was living with his grandparents, James A. and Betsey G. Gifford, at Delton (2015:4B). James Gifford, born at Ohio, age 65, was a janitor at a public school, Betsey, born at Michigan, age 60, was a dressmaker, working at home.

According to the 1930 Census (2609:6A), Raymond L. Maxfield, age 22, lived at Delton, where he was a miller of flour. With him lived his mother, Myrtle E. Maxfield, age 45, divorced, and his grandmother, Betty Gifford, age 71, a widow. I have no further information on Frank Maxfield.

Myrtle Maxfield died at Baraboo, Sauk County, Wisconsin, on 29 December 1974 (WI D; SSDI).

Frank and Mary Maxfield had at least one child:

  1. RAYMOND LESTER9 MAXFIELD b. at Wisconsin on 19 November 1908.
