Elmer Maxfield married LUCY JANE McWHORTER at Sauk County, Wisconsin, on 2 September 1875 (WI M). She was born at Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois, on 19 December 1853 (Spring Grove Cem), a daughter of Samuel and Jane McWhorter.
The 1900 census (1816:1A) located the family of Elmer and Lucy Maxfield at Delton Town, Sauk County, Wisconsin, as follows:

The 1900 census also reported that Elmer and Lucy had been married 24 years, and that Lucy had nine children, all living. The census listed only eight. The ninth child, Frank Maxfield, born about a year after Elmer and Lucy's marriage, had evidently already left home.
Elmer P. Maxfield died at Delton, Sauk County on 4 July 1907 (WI D). We can't tell what tragedy struck this family, that the father would die six months after a marriade daughter, and another married daughter died within three years.
The 1910 census (1736:112B) reported Lucy Maxfield, farmer, age 57, living at Delton with six children, Delmer, 29, laborer in a saw mill, Leona, 23, Marshall, 21, laborer on the home farm, Maynard, 18, laborer on a dairy farm, Ella, 15, and Wesley, 12. The household also included granddaughter Luetta Wharry, age 3, she and her parents all born in Wisconsin. Luetta was Lucy's granddaughter through her daughter Mary. Lucy reported having nine children, seven of whom were still living. If we are correct in identifying Frank as the eldest child, and Alta had died, then probably Mary had also died.
The 1920 Census (2015:1B) reported the family on a farm at Delton Township:
