The 1910 census (1169:2:158A) reported James, Nora, and son James at Cleveland, Ohio. James, 27, was a repairman of boats; Nora was 28, son James was 4. James and Nora had been married five years, it was a first marriage; Nora had only one child, who was living. Nora's parents were English-speaking born at Ireland.
James Joseph Maxfield registered for the draft (WWI Draft) at Cuyahoga County, Ohio, on 9 May 1918, and reported the following:
James Joseph Maxfield, 7740 Elton Ave., Cleveland, OHIt is not known why he listed his brother as nearest relative, rather than his wife. Apparently a change of occupation had put him on the road.
