JOHN ERFORD8 MAXFIELD (Moses7, James6, Eliphalet5-4-3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Skowhegan, Somerset County, Maine, in October 1851 (1900 census; 1850/1 in 1870 census; 1851 in 1920 census; 1852/3 in 1880 census), a child of Moses Maxfield and his wife Asenath Smith The 1870 Census (559:1:322A) reported John Maxfield, age 19, working on a farm at Pittsfield, Maine.

John E. Maxfield married ANNIE MARIE SPEARIN at Pittsfield on 1 November 1876 (Pierson; names in NMGR 8:20). Annie was born at Skowhegan in April 1858 (1900 census; 1856 in 1920 census; 1856/7 in 1880 census). The 1880 Census (487:447A) reported John (age 27) and Anna M. (23) Maxfield living at Pittsfield with a one year old daughter, Blanche E.

The 1900 census (600:1:273) reported this family at Pittsfield:

This record further indicated that John and Annie had been married 23 years, and that Annie had two children, both living.

The 1910 Census (546:2:120A) reported the family of John E. Maxfield at Pittsfield, Maine. John, 58, was salesman for a feed store; Annie M. Maxfield, his wife, age 53, had two children, both living; daughter Blanche S. Maxfield, 32, worled as a saleswoman in a dry goods store.

The 1920 census (648:16B) found John E. Maxfield, 68, his wife Annie, 63, and their single daughter Blanche, 40, living at Summer Street, Pittsfield village, Pittsfield Town, Maine. John was miller for a grain mill; Blanche was a sales clerk for a dry goods store.

John Erford Maxfield died at Pittsfield on 15 January 1922 (Pierson). Annie Maxfield died on 10 August 1929 (NMGR 8:20).

John and Annie Maxfield had the following children:
