Ninth Generation

EDWIN GODFREY9 MAXFIELD (Leander8, Albert7, James6, William5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Kansas on 11 August 1882, a child of Leander Maxfield and his second wife Lovilla Thomas. His family moved back to Iowa some time between 1887 and 1892. When Edwin was about ten years old his mother died, about three years later his father died. The 1900 Census (461:42A) reported Edd Maxfield, age 17, a farm laborer in the household of John and Rose Lavison of Clayton Township, Taylor County, Iowa.

Edwin Maxfield married JUANITA GRAY at Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa, on 10 October 1906 (O'Dell). Juanita was born at Fort Madison, Lee County, Iowa, on 2 May 1888 (SSDI). The 1910 Census (425:2B) reported this young family at Marshall Township, Taylor County, Iowa:

When Edwin signed up for the draft at Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, on 12 September 1918 (WWI Draft), he reported the following:

The Edwin Maxfield family did move around. At the birth of their first child in 1907 they were at Conway, Taylor County, Iowa. The 1910 Census reported them at Marshall Township, Taylor County, but children were born in 1910 and 1913 at New London, Henry County. In 1918 both his draft registration and a child's birth were recorded at Burlington, Des Moines County. The next record I have found is the 1930 Census (2346:24B) which located them at 2315 1/2 Chemeriet Street, Houston, Harris County, Texas.
