OLIVER MORTON9 MAXFIELD (Lorenzo8, William7, James6, William5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana, on 27 April 1876 (MO D; WWI Draft), a child of Lorenzo Lemartin Maxfield and his first wife Sarah Ann Gray. Before Oliver reached the age of four his family had moved to Kansas, and lived at various locations in Kansas and Missouri.

Oliver married ADA VANSLYKE at Carthage, Jasper County, Missouri, on 10 November 1897 (MO M). Ada was born at Kansas about March 1877 (1900 Census). The 1900 Census (473:17A) reported the young couple at Empire City, Cherokee County, Kansas. Oliver, born April 1875, was a miner; his wife, called "Cecil," was born March 1877 and had no children. They had been married three years. By 1909 Ada either had died or been divorced.

Oliver Morton Maxfield married as his second wife CARRIE ALICE IRENE IRELAN, at Carl Junction, Jasper County, Missouri, on 21 May 1909 (MO M). Oliver's father and Carrie's mother had married over four months earlier. Oliver's sister and Carrie's brother had been married for eighteen months. The 1910 Census reported Oliver and Carrie on the Irelan farm at Twin Groves, Jasper County, Missouri, with their parents (see page on Oliver's father). Oliver was working as a miner.

Oliver Maxfield registered for the draft at Jasper County on 12 September 1918 (WWI Draft). He reported the following:

The 1920 Census (921:1B) reported the family at Jefferson Highway, Galena Township, Jasper County. Oliver, 43, was a laborer on a dairy farm. His wife, Carrie, was 27. They had a daughter, Margaret E. Maxfield, age five.

The 1930 Census (1205:6B) reported the family at Conner Avenue, Joplin, consisting of Oliver, 55, working for a merchant, wife Carrie 38, cook for a delicatessen, daughter Margaret, 16, working as a nurse, and brother Melvin, 59, unemployed.

Oliver Morton Maxfield died at Joplin on 31 August 1934 (MO D) of a coronary occlusion. The death record stated he had been a policeman since 1914.
