CARROLL L.9 MAXFIELD (Leon8, Montravilla7, Nathan6, probably Eliphalet5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Potsdam, Saint Lawrence County, New York, on 28 June 1888 (WWI Draft; SSDI), a child of Leon Montrail Maxfield and his wife Eunice Elvira Bradley. Carroll grew up in his family at Saint Lawrence County, New York. Then he went West, and the 1910 Census (296:15A), reported him living with his aunt Effie Parks and her husband Joseph E. Parks at 385 Grand Avenue, Aurora, Kane County, Illinois. Carroll, age 22 and single, was a street railway conductor.

Carroll Maxfield married GRACE MAE BAKER at Newington, Stormont County, Ontario, on 19 April 1911 (ON M). Grace was born at Osnabruck, Stormont County, Ontario, on 1 June 1888 (IL D), a child of John Baker and Lois Morgan.

When Carroll signed up for the draft in 1917 or 1918 at Aurora (WWI Draft), he reported the following:

Grace (Baker) Maxfield died at Aurora on 24 November 1918 (IL D).

The 1920 Census (373:13A) mistakenly called Carroll "Harold," and reported him as head of the household at 242 Grant Place, Aurora, Illinois. His father, who moved there before Carrol's draft registration, was present in the household.
