Pirie was raised by his grandparents, Charles W. and Fatina Maxfield, and was reported with them at Lawrence Township, Van Buren County, Michigan in the 1910 census, and at Chicago in the 1920 census.
Pirie Maxfield married EBBY RYANDER about 1925 (1930 census). She was born at Chicago, Illinois on 1 May 1905 (IL D), the child of John Ryander and Hilma Nelson, both born at Sweden. The 1930 census (468:16B) reported this family at 1841 Lansdale Avenue, Chicago, Illinois:
