VERNON L.9 MAXFIELD (George8, David7, Nathaniel6, Eliphalet5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Kansas on February 1890 (1900 census), a child of George W. Maxfield and his second wife Eleanor Mathers. After his father's death, Vernon moved to California with his mother, where he was reported in census records in 1900, 1910, and 1920. In 1910 they were in Los Angeles and he was a wagon driver for a transfer company. In 1920 they were at Long Beach and he was a machinist in a ship yard.

Vernon L. Maxfield married about 1926/7 JEANETTE P. BOBCOCK, who was born at Illinois about 1898/9. They were reported in the 1930 census (131:1A) at Torrance, California, as follows:
