GEORGE W.8 MAXFIELD (David7, Nathaniel6, Eliphalet5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathanial2, John1) was born at Illinois about 1855/6 (1870, 1880 censuses), a child of David Maxfield and his wife Anne Freeze. George Maxfield married MELVINA ________, who was born at New York about 1859 (NY 1859/60 in 1880 Census; Canada 1858/9 in 1885 KS census). At the time of the 1880 Census (372:445D) the following family was living at Arrington, Atchison County, Kansas:

The 1885 Kansas census (KS C 1885 6:14) reported G. W. and Melvina Maxfield, with children, Hubert G. and Maud, at Grasshopper, Atchison County, Kansas. G. W., age 29, was born in Illinois and came to Kansas from Illinois, the trade he had learned as a youth was farming. Melvina, 26, was born at Canada, but came to Kansas from New York. Hubert, age 5, and Maud, age seven months, were born at Kansas.

George W. Maxfield married as his second wife at Kansas City, Kansas, on 16 May 1888 ELEANOR MATHERS (KS M), who was born at Kansas on 20 August 1863 (CA D). George died at Kansas City, Kansas, on 29 January 1894 (KS D).

Eleanor Maxfield, a young widow, soon moved to California with her son, where they were reported in the 1900 census (89:1:167) at 710 Hill Street, Los Angeles, California, in the rooming house of Delphine Laser. Ella was born August 1863 at Kansas, her parents were born at Pennsylvania and Missouri; son Vernon was born February 1890 at Kansas, and was in school. The 1910 census (83:1:128B) reported them at Los Angeles, where Ella, 46, worked as a seamstress for private families, and Vernon, 20, was a wagon driver for a transfer company. The 1920 census (104:4A) reported mother and son at Chestnut Avenue, Long Beach, California. Vernon, 28, was a machinist at a ship yard, Ellann, 56, had no employent.

In the 1930 census (136:4A) Ellenor Maxfield, 66, widow, was a servant in the household of Joseph and Hannah Sattler at 1524 Sycamore Avenue, Los Angeles. Eleanor Maxfield died at Los Angeles County on 4 January 1950 (CA D)

George Maxfield and his first wife Melvina had the following children:
