Mrs. Sophie E. Maxfield, 92, of Michigan City, died Tuesday, De. 26, 2006, at 11:23 p.m. at Saint Anthony Memorial Hospital, Michigan City.
She was born Sept. 23, 1914, in Two Buttes, Colo., to G. D. and Alta (Croft) Whitaker.
Mrs. Maxfield had been a teacher in public schools and also had worked at J. C. Penny as a sales clerk. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star.
On May 23, 1949, in Kansas City, Kan., she married Maurice K. Maxfield, who died June 15, 2003.
Also preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters, Mary, Nellie, Velma and Elizabeth; and four brothers, Gene, John, Edwin and Warren.
Surviving are two daughters, Suzanne (John Jr.) LaRocco of Michigan City and Sandra (Brian) Butterworth of Duluth, Minn.; and four grandchildren, Jennifer and Lindsay LaRocco and Charlie and Bob Butterworth. . . .
