JOHN FOWLER3 MAXFIELD (John2, William1) was born at Westchester County, New York (Tom Maxfield), in September 1840 (1900 census), a child of John Maxfield and his wife Mary Guion. At the time of the 1860 census John was a clerk living with his parents in Brooklyn, New York. In 1870 he was still living with his parents, who had moved to Bloomfield, Essex County, New Jersey. John had entered into the family business of fruit dealer.
John F. Maxfield married MARY CAROLINE TODD in 1875 (Tom Maxfield). "Carrie" was born in New York in July 1853 (1900 census).
The 1880 census (780:391A) reported John and Carrie and their first two children living at Bloomfield. John, 39, was a fruit merchant. Carrie, 26, Theodore, 3, and Juliet, 1, were at home.
The 1900 census (969:1:269) reported a greatly enlarged family at 261 Franklin Street, Bloomfield:

John F. Maxfield died sometime before the 1920 census, when his widow Carrie appeared in the census with her son Theodore.
The 1930 census (1328:16A) reported Carrie Maxfield at 261 Frankiln Street, Bloomfield, with two adult children:
