His wife, BETSEY CHAFFEE was born at North Kingston, Rhode Island, according to her death record, between 27 November and 26 December 1791, a child of Sanford and Eunice Chaffee. The 1850 census placed her birth in Massachusetts about 1793/4; her cemetery record indicated a 1792 birth.

Abel Maxfield died at Bristol on 12 October 1863 (VR RI D 1863:8), and was reported as follows:
Bristol: Oct 12, 1863, Abel Maxfield, 75 yrs, d. Bristol Neck, male, white, married, farmer b. Bristol, American, to David and Meribah Maxfield, dropsey Chest, bur. BristolHe was buried in the North Burial Ground, Bristol.
The 1870 census (1471:1:22B) reported Betsey Maxfield, age 78, born in Massachusetts, living in Bristol with her son, William H. Maxfield, age 53, born in Rhode Island, a farm laborer.
Betsey died at Bristol on 26 February 1882 (VR RI D 1882:722), and was buried at North Burial Ground, Bristol. Her death record stated:
