Immediately upon his return, Charles H. Maxfield married HELEN FULLER, of Saxon Township, Illinois, at Stark County, Illinois, on 23 August 1863 (IL M). Her parents were Jehiel Fuller and Emeline Fellon. Helen was born at Saxon Township on 10 April 1840 (F).
Elizabeth Wright claimed that after marriage, Charles and Helen Maxfield moved to the state of Washington (NMGR 7:87); however, Harry French indicated they lived in Stark County until 1871, when they moved to Powashiek County, Iowa (F). At least one child died there, in Sheridan Township, in 1878. The 1880 Census (362:439C) reported the family in Sheridan Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa:

The 1885 Iowa Census (IA C 1885: 255:293-94) reported Charles H. Maxfield, 47, farmer, and Helen Maxfield, 44, at Sixth Avenue, Grinnell, Iowa. The household included Frederick A., 20, clerk in a store, Hattie M., 18, student, Chas. H., 16, student, Alice E., 10, student, Myrtle, 5, and Ralph W., 3. Beginning with the younger Charles, they were all born at Powesheik County, Iowa. The elder Charles was born in Maine, Helen and Frederick in Illinois.
An 1889 Washington Census ( WA C 1889:13) found this family at Pierce County, Washington. The household consisted of C. H. Maxfield, 53, laborer, Helen, 49, wife, Hattie, 22, domestic, Chas., 28, Alice, 14, Myrtle, 8, and Ralph, 7. The 1900 census (1282:7A) found this family in the Northwest precinct of Green Township, Hamilton County, Ohio:

Charles and Helen had been married for thirty-six years; Helen had eight children, six living.
The 1910 census (1195:1:210A) found Charles H. Maxfield, 74, wife Helen, 70, and daughter Myrtle, 30, living at Green Township, listed next to Ralph and Henrietta Maxfield.
Charles Maxfield died some time between 1910 and 1920. The 1920 Census (1396:4A) reported widow Helen Maxfield, age 81, and her single daughter Myrtle, age 40, living at Harrison Pike, Cheviot Village, Green Township, Hamilton County, Ohio. They were listed immediately after Ralph W. and Henrietta Maxfield. Helen Maxfield died at Hamilton County, Ohio, on 15 May 1926 (Oh D).
