HORACE BENJAMIN7 MAXFIELD (James6, Eliphalet5-4-3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Maine about 1854, (1848/9 in 1850 Census, 1853/4 in 1870, 1880 censuses, 1854 in 1920 Census; perhaps the 1850 Census record is for a child of same initials who died). His parents were James Quimby Maxfield and his fourth wife Sarah Brown

About 1878/9 (1900 census) Horace Maxfield married LAVERNE KEMPTON (NMGR 8:20). Laverne was born at Maine on January 1856 (1900 census).

The 1880 Census (482:580D) reported Horace and Laverne at Winthrop, Kennebec County, Maine:

Horace and Laverne had been married twenty-one years; she had one child, who was living.

The 1910 Census (542:3A) reported Horace B. Maxfield, 55, and his wife Latence K., 54, at Main Street, Winthrop. Horace was night watchman for an oil cloth shop.

The 1920 Census (644:1B) reported Horace B. Maxfield, age 65, and his wife Laverne, age 63, at 150 Main Street, Winthrop. Horace was foreman at a cloth factory.

Laverne had died before the 1930 Census (834:), which found Horace S. Maxfield, 75 year old widower, and fireman at a lens factory, living at Winthrop. Horace and Laverne Maxfield had the following child:

  1. EZRA KEMPTON8 MAXFIELD b. at Maine on 23 April 1881
