John V. Maxfield and ELIZABETH VOLLER were married at Salem on 16 April 1867 (VR Ma 199:270:47). The record stated:

Elizabeth was born at Salem in November 1851 (1900 Census; 1848/9 from marriage record; 1849/50 NY according to 1870 Census; 1852/3 VA in 1880 Census) to Benjamin and Nancy Voller.

John Maxfield was called a teamster on his marriage record, on the birth records of children in 1873 and 1878, and on the 1870 and 1880 censuses.

The 1870 Census (613:1:582B) reported John B. and Lizzie P. Maxfield living with George W. and Mary P. Buffam at Salem. George Buffam was an undertaker. This record gave John's age as 34 (too old compared with other records) and Lizzie's as 20. It gave Lizzie's birth state as New York.

The 1880 Census (532:793C) reported John P. (age 37) and Elizabeth B. (27)Maxfield in Salem, with their children George T. (7) and Cora M. (1). John was again reported as a teamster, born in Massachusetts, his father born in New Hampshire and mother in Massachusetts. Elizabeth's birth state was given as Virginia, her parents born in Massachusetts.

The 1900 Census (598:2:296) reported this family in Guilford, Piscataquis County, Maine, on the Guilford Center to North Guilford Road, with Elizabeth listed as head of the household.

This record further indicated that John and Elizabeth had been married 30 years, and that Elizabeth had 5 children, three living.

John V. Maxfield died at Guilford on 8 June 1901 (Civ W Sol). Elizabeth died at Wenham, Massachusetts, on 4 September 1908 (VR Ma 99:155 Deaths), reported as follows:
