EDGAR HERBERT8 MAXFIELD (Lucy7, Jonathan6, Abraham5, Edmund4, Timothy3-2, John1) was born at Dartmouth, Massachusetts, on 2 March 1855, the illegitimate child of Lucy S. Maxfield (VR Dart(H) Births: 2:35:5).

Edgar Maxfield married IDA JANE PACKARD at Northbridge, Massachusetts, on 21 June 1878 (VR Ma 300:238:5). The event was recorded as follows:

Edgar Herbert Maxfield of Northbridge, 21, machinist, b. New Bedford to William and Lucy, 1st;
Ida Jane Packard of Northbridge, 16, b. Winchendon to John and Eliza, 1st;
by Asa E. A. Manning, pastor of M.E. Church Whitinsville
Ida Packard was born at Winchendon, Massachusetts, in October 1860 (1900 Census), a child of John and Eliza Packard.

Edgar and Eliza were living at Northbridge in 1878, but had moved to Upton, Massachusetts, about the time their first child was born, were living at Taunton, Massachusetts at the 1880 Census, and at Worcester from 1881 to 1884 at the births of their next three children, and at the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses.

Edgar was called a machinist in his marriage record and in the birth records of all his children, and at the 1910, 1920 and 1930 censuses.

The 1880 Census (526:467B) reported Edgar H. Maxfield, age 23, machinist, his wife Ida J., age 18, and daughter Eva M., age 1, at Taunton.

The 1900 Census (697:9B) reported this family at 16 Beaver Street, Worcester. The family included Edgar, born March 1857, Ida, born October 1860, John H., born November 1881, and Lucy D., born December 1884. Edwin was a machinist, John H. an apprentice moulder. Edwin and Ida had been married 23 years. Ida had five children, four living at the time.

Ida died at Worcester on 6 January 1907 (MA VR 1840-1910:107:94:37 ). The 1910 census (633:2:122A) reported Edgar Maxfield, 54, widower and machinist at a machine shop, living at 402 Park Avenue, Worcester. The 1920 census (752:3B) reported an Edward Maxfield (perhaps a mistake for Edgar), age 61, widow, machinist, boarding at 7 Irene Street, Worcester. The 1930 Census (971:18A) reported Edgar H. Maxfield, 73, a lodger at 4 Kilby Street, Worcester.
